Portaferrissa #1 (ref: 9051)

Located right off the world famous La Rambla this apartment is simply stunning. It has been furnished as an art form with every space designed to stimulate the senses.

The apartment is on the third floor, without a lift, but has impact immediately on entering. There is a small lobby with space age silver blue walls an incredible 200 year old antique Chinese carved door.

Throughout the apartment there are beautiful exposed oak beams on the ceiling, the rich wooden floors giving a touch of simple classic style - an eye-catching contrast to the bold patterned wall paper from the contemporary collection of a well known Barcelona designer. Rich reds, oranges, chocolate and gold are the colours that stimulate the senses and guarantee that this is not like any other apartment you have stayed in.

The living area is taken up with a huge Turkish divan covered with an ornate tapestry, A great space where you can lounge, soaking up the rich ambience of an eclectically mixed East meets West fusion. There is a small occasional table as well as the modern touches of the plasma screen TV and DVD player. The lighting is inspired with subtle halogen spot lights complementing a gorgeous modern chandelier alongside candelabras from the turn of the century.

From the living area you can walk out onto a small standing balcony with views out to the pedestrianised street and La Rambla itself.

The kitchen incorporates a round rustic Catalan dining table and 4 chairs. On the wall behind are burnished silver Moroccan trays adding further lustre to the rich wallpaper behind. The kitchen itself comes fully equipped with a SMEG fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, halogen hob and electric Bosch oven. There is also a kettle, toaster and coffee maker. The kitchen can be opened up by sliding doors to the living area.

The bedroom is a calmer, cooler atmosphere with white shuttered windows and silver grey walls. There is a double bed with bedside cabinet and reading lamp and an antique Chinese black lacquered chest with an amazing twisted nest chandelier. There is also a plasma screen TV.

The shower room with w.c. provides a mix of antique versus modern with a walk in glass fronted shower faced with ceramic 'rusted' tiles. A deep red ceramic basin atop a thick wooden surround adds a luxurious touch.

The apartment comes with an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and has ADSL internet connection. It is an exterior apartment and has views out onto the pedestrian street below and the world famous La Rambla.

Located right on one of the three main shopping avenues in Barcelona this apartment is fantastically located and is itself a real treat for interior design lovers.
Please note the apartment does not have air conditioning but fans will be provided.

"Check in was scheduled for 3 pm but you were willing to check us in at 10 am since our flight arrived early morning. We had some metro trouble getting there but John worked with us to get us checked in. We had to leave early the following Friday for our flight so he let us check out without having to meet with anyone which worked out well. The apt was adorable and looked just like the photos - we were not disappointed. We loved having the washer dryer so we could laundry before traveling."

"Having just returned from a tremendous week in Barca I wouldn't hesitate to return to this apartment.Jeff (owner-greeter) was friendly, attentive & spoke great English.Location is superb, we walked everywhere for shopping & eating & spent many a happy hour wandering around the beautiful Bari Gotic.Decor is quirky & stylish, as pictured & full of all mod cons.I'm terribly unfit & suffer with a bad back & still managed the stairs fine! I can't fault a thing & heartily recommend to couples."

...Andrew, United Kingdom, October 2008.

"We were extremely happy with the apartment and our greeter was helpful not to mention flexible (our flight was delayed!). We couldn't have asked for a better area to be based in - we walked everywhere, shopped for fresh fruit and cheese in the market and didn't need to use any public transport at all. The apartment was beautiful - decorated with personality and lovely individual touches - so much nicer than a hotel! It was also well maintained and clean. Loved the spacious front room and balcony. "

...Philippa, United Kingdom, June 2008.

"We enjoyed the apartment very much; the location was fantastic near the Ramblas, near the shops, nice restaurants. It was the first time I booked an apartment instead of a hotel and I liked it a lot, it felt like home in a foreign country. We decoration was really special and done with care. The apartment was clean and the description on the website and pictures were matching the reality."

Recommendations from Guests that stayed at this apartment...

"Taller Tapas, up on Catalunya"

...Fiona, United Kingdom, May 2010.

"So many restaurants and bars in the area. The market is very close and amazing for food. The wee tapas bars inside were great but get very busy so a good option would be to get some meats, cheeses, olives and other snacks and take back to apartment. Supermarket just up the road was good for basics but as for fresh food, go to the market."

...Holly, United Kingdom, April 2010.

"Taller de Tapas - great tapas restaurant"

...Danielle, United Kingdom, October 2009.

"the attic resturant around the corner is very nice and reasonable , tappa tappa at the harbour, and the market on la rambla for all your food shopping"

...Eoin, Ireland, September 2009.

"Mercat de la Boqueria is a 'must see'. Montserrat is great for walking and spectacular views."

...JOHN, United Kingdom, April 2009.

"Patagonia which is right beside the apartment does the most delicious ice cream and cocktails and was always handy for a drink before bed."

...Willam, United Kingdom, April 2009.

"Great location - walking distance to metro, market, La Rambla, the port and beach, etc. Our favorite restaurant was a Greek restaurant called Sukur. We loved the Gaudi architecture - Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, La Pedrera. Also climbed up Montjuic to get great views of the city. Tried to ride the cable cars but it was too windy."

...Jill & Greg, United States, March 2009.

"The huge food market Boqueria (merkat st josep) is less than 5 mins walk & a must for foodies - we enjoyed fantastic tapas (5 dishes for E12, plenty for 2 to share) for lunch & found it a pleasant experience to pick breakfast pastries, eggs, bread & cured hams. If you're looking for daily basics the Carrefour supermarket, equally close on the Ramblas, has everything covered."

...Alexandra, United Kingdom, February 2009.

"I highly recommend taking a fenicular trip up Tibidabo and riding the ferris wheel for some fantastic views of the city. Also, if someone is planning to visit Antoni Gaudi's Park Guell, go to the Vallcarca metro station and enter the park from the west side. A series of escalators make it an easy approach and it's less crowded than the main south entrance. There are more astounding views to be had by climbing the El Calvario on the southwest side of the park (not for those afraid of heights!)."
